About Illuminator

Introduction Our IED course gave us an opportunity to notice basic problems that people face in their daily lives which usually go unnoticed and then provided us with the skills to build an effective solution for those problems. Now, its the time for the second project and theme for the second project is "Interactive Environments"

Problem statement

Finally we started noticing our own lifestyles and finding what problems we faced from day to day.

We found out, it was very difficult to study while lying on the bed because you always has to be over the book to see what's written on the page. it also unnecessarily irritates the people sleeping close to you if you are styding late night. Therefore we decided to create reader friendly appliance, which ensures you don't have to peek into the book all the time.

About ILLUMINATOR:

The ILLUMINATOR is a holographic book viewer with gestures enabled.

Features:

1) A cost-effective solution to study in the dark without disturbing anybody.

2) Don't bother to look into the screen to read.

3) Sensitive and quick gesture control. Change page with a flick of your finger.

4) Suitable screen size for a better view of the book.

5) An Easy learning tutorial for kindergarten can easily be provided. Showing alphabets and numbers in a unique way.

6) While cooking one need not use their dirty hands to turn the pages of the recipe book, a simple hand gesture will do.

Components used:

Monitor Screen - For the pdf display.

Acrylic Sheets - For hologram.

Raspberry pie - For the image viewing and gestures processing.

HDMI to VGA - To connect Raspberry pie with the monitor screen.

UltraSonic Sensor - For gesture Control.

Implementation and experience:

It was really fun finding the Correct sized monitor screen as it should be handy and the text size should be decent for the eye.

Also, installing the Rasp OS on the Raspberry pie seemed to be an easy task as it is but it was very frustrating also because it took us many hours to just install it. Working with the Ultrasonic sensor was also interesting.Also, it is always fun to work with the hardworking and Fun loving team.
